This is the sixth post in a series of ongoing posts where we highlight one of the Aim Lab training challenges and modes. The goal is to give you a better idea of how it works and why it can improve your performance.

This challenge starts somewhat similar to Strafeshot, only the target will be glowing an orangish-red to start. After the 5 second countdown, the target will strafe around randomly from left to right. The target orb will stay on screen the entire time and never disappear, the goal being to keep your aim on the target for as long as possible and keeping its color green. Your gun will not shoot in this mode and this challenge lasts 60 seconds.

Strafetrack currently only has one mode and is currently only available in the Graybox environment. There will eventually be one for each available environment and some different variations of the task but currently only the standard Graybox, Ultimate mode is available.

The goal of the Strafetrack task is to improve your ability to “Stay on target” by tracking movement and keeping your crosshair on target for as long as possible. This will help improve your accuracy and time to kill on targets, even when they have erratic and random movements. You will learn how to keep up with these movements and decrease your time to kill by ensuring as many as your bullets as possible are reaching your opponent.

The goal of the Strafetrack challenges is to increase your tracking or ability to stay on target and correct for any spatial biases you may have. Just as many basketball players shoot better from one side of the floor compared to the other, gamers have spatial biases too. These biases can be subtle and difficult to notice and therefore difficult to correct. Aim Lab alleviates this problem by collecting objective data on your shots to help you identify and correct your biases quicker. For instance, do you attempt to guess which way your opponent may move and unknowingly lead your shots that way? Check out the results screen at the bottom of the post for more details!

Strafetrack: Ultimate mode in Graybox environment with pistol. The target orb is green when you are on target and orange when your not. Both third person and first person are available for tracking practice as well as aiming down the sights and hip firing.

Strafetrack: Ultimate mode in Graybox environment without weapon model. You can turn off the weapon model and just use your crosshair to help train your target tracking at any time. This can make the training a bit easier but it can also make it a lot less familiar compared to whichever game you may be training for.

Strafetrack: Results. After each time you perform a Strafetrack challenge, you get instant results on your performance for OTR (On-Target Ratio) showing a percentage of time you were on target out of the total amount of time the target was there. Your performance is also compared to your average performance on the task, and lets you view improvement across time.
